Go around the world and ask for a cabernet: you will get a cabernet sauvignon. Walk into an osteria in Friuli and you get Cabernet Franc. The nuances of language, homonymy, tradition, gathered in a word to which nothing more needs to be added. Whether ‘Franc’ stands for frank, in the sense of straightforward, or rather denotes French origins does not matter. Even this vine, after having travelled, has found in Friuli people capable of welcoming it and leading it towards maturity.
